Hi, I’m Rowan
I’m an interdisciplinary researcher working at the crossroads of computer science, social sciences, and philosophy. I lecture at London South Bank University and take on freelance projects. I’m also proud to be a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Royal Statistical Society.
My research uses participatory systems-change processes to challenge traditional ideas of algorithmic fairness and reconnect artificial intelligence development to people, place, and planet. Over the course of my career, I’ve managed social research projects for UK Government agencies and charities, co-authored the Universal Healthcare National Inquiry Report in England, and taught Health and Social Care as a Visiting Lecturer at London South Bank University. I have a background in public policy and advocacy, having served voluntary roles on the UK Parliamentary Youth Select Committee on Mental Health and the Executive Committee of the Young Greens of England and Wales. When not immersed in research, I enjoy exploring art galleries, admiring modernist architecture, and savoring a good novel with a cup of herbal tea.
I hold an MSc in Behavioural and Data Science from the University of Warwick and a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford.
